Campaign Summary: ED28

IMPORTANT: Despite misleading communications that imply otherwise, there is no process for the Brighton Democratic Committee (BDC) to “designate” candidates.

There are seven (7) candidates running for the 4 slots on the Brighton Democratic Committee in the 28th Election District.

Election Day is Tuesday, June 25. On that day, for ED28, the polling place is St. Thomas More Church, 2617 East Ave., Rochester, NY  14610.

Early voting is happening now through June 23, and voters can use any early voting location. In Brighton, a popular early voting site is Empire State University at 680 Westfall Road. For information on locations and hours for early voting, click here.

Justice For Brighton is supporting a slate of three (3) candidates for Brighton Democratic Committee in the 28th Election District: Jim Berger, Linda Edwards, and Jane van Dis, all of whom live in the district and would love to represent their own neighborhood on the Committee.

Three other candidates in ED28 are supported by Democrats for Brighton, an authorized multi-candidate committee with the dubious distinction of running an all-white slate of 31 candidates across Brighton, as documented in the article Whiter Than A Trump Rally: Gail Seigel, Elliot Roberts, and Brendon Fleming. Ms. Seigel is a longtime member who was assigned to ED28 because Brighton Town Leader Barbara Moehle already had assigned four members to her “home” election district. Messrs. Roberts and Fleming are newer to the Committee, having joined during the 2023-2024 cycle. They live in the 1st and 13th Election Districts, respectively.

The final candidate, incumbent Dawn Botting, does not appear to have registered with the New York State Board of Elections. Ms. Botting earned her place on the Committee in 2022 by winning a primary election in ED28.
